Pakistan has opened mandatory registration for the 2027 Hajj season, with Religious Affairs Minister Sardar Muhammad Yousaf confirming that the process is free and that talks are underway with Saudi Arabia to raise the country's pilgrim quota. The announcement was made at a launch ceremony in Islamabad on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Registration is now open to aspiring pilgrims inside Pakistan and abroad. According to the Ministry of Religious Affairs, every intending pilgrim must complete this step before selecting either the government or the private Hajj scheme.
Free Registration and How to Apply
The minister stressed that there is no cost attached to the initial registration. "Registration for Hajj 2027 has started today," Yousaf said, as quoted by the religious affairs ministry. "Hajj 2027 registration is free of charge; no fee will be collected."
Applicants can complete the process at any designated bank or online. Overseas Pakistanis are able to register from whichever country they reside in, and members of the same family may register together under a single application.
Registration is mandatory and acts as a gateway. Pilgrims cannot move on to choose a government or private package until this stage is done. The ministry has said that details of Hajj 2027 package costs, along with terms and conditions, will be released later under the forthcoming Hajj policy.
Passport Validity Requirement
One requirement deserves close attention. Yousaf said it is essential for intending pilgrims to hold a passport valid until at least November 26, 2027. Pilgrims whose travel documents expire before that date should renew them early to avoid complications during the booking and visa stages.
A passport is not demanded at the very first registration step. It becomes necessary at the later booking stage, so applicants have a window to put their documents in order.
Quota Talks With Saudi Arabia
Pakistan was allocated a quota of 179,210 pilgrims for the previous season, one of the largest national allocations in the world. Pilgrims travel under both government and private arrangements.
The minister revealed that Islamabad and Riyadh are in discussions to expand that figure. He noted that Pakistan's Muslim population has now passed 230 million people, and argued that the quota should rise to roughly 230,000 pilgrims to better reflect demand.
Any increase would depend on the outcome of those bilateral talks and on Saudi Arabia's overall capacity planning for the season. The likely dates for Hajj 2027 fall in mid-May 2027.
Practical Tips for Pakistani Pilgrims
Those planning to perform Hajj in 2027 can take several steps now. Complete the free registration promptly, since booking later proceeds on a first-come, first-served basis until the quota fills. Check passport validity at once and renew it if it expires before November 26, 2027. Families intending to travel together should register jointly to keep their applications linked.
Overseas Pakistanis should confirm the registration channel available in their country of residence. Finally, pilgrims should wait for the official Hajj policy before committing to a scheme, as it will set out package costs, terms, and conditions in full.
