Pakistan will begin mandatory registration for the 2027 Hajj later this month, the country's Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) said on Tuesday, urging all prospective pilgrims to ensure their passports remain valid and to prepare their travel documents without delay. The announcement followed the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah's release of the timelines and policy for the 1448 AH pilgrimage season.
According to the ministry, preparations for Hajj 2027 will begin immediately in line with directives from Saudi authorities. Pakistan was granted a quota of 179,210 pilgrims for the most recent season, one of the largest allocations in the world.
Passport Validity and Registration Rules
MoRA stated that a valid Pakistani passport will be mandatory for Hajj 2027 registration. The ministry advised that passports must remain valid until 16 November 2027 and urged citizens to obtain or renew their documents as soon as possible to avoid last-minute complications.
Registration will be open to applicants under both the government and private Hajj schemes, the ministry said. Once registered, applicants will be able to choose which scheme to travel under. The requirement also applies to overseas Pakistanis intending to perform the pilgrimage, who must complete the same registration process.
The ministry added that details regarding package costs, terms and conditions will be announced later under the forthcoming Hajj policy. Earlier statements from the religious affairs minister indicated that bookings for the 2027 season could be completed within roughly two months of the Saudi announcement.
Building on the 2026 Season
The latest guidance comes shortly after Pakistan concluded its 2026 operations. Authorities completed arrangements for nearly 179,000 pilgrims during that season, including about 119,000 under the government scheme and around 60,000 through private operators. Post-Hajj flight operations to bring pilgrims home began at the end of May.
Officials reported that complaints from pilgrims during the 2026 season amounted to less than one percent, and said the experience would be reviewed to improve arrangements for the coming year. Hajj management remains one of the largest annual overseas logistical operations undertaken by the Pakistani government, spanning accommodation, transport, catering and guidance services.
What the Saudi Timeline Means
The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced the 2027 schedule at a ceremony in Jeddah and handed it to religious affairs ministers from pilgrim-sending countries. Under the published timeline, the signing of agreements for service packages through the Masar Nusuk platform is set to run from late July 2026 until late January 2027. The issuance of Hajj visas is scheduled to begin on 28 January 2027, with flight operations starting on 8 April 2027.
Saudi Arabia has also moved toward an integrated service model that combines accommodation in Makkah and Madinah with transportation and catering under unified packages, part of a broader set of reforms aimed at improving oversight and pilgrim services.
Practical Tips for Prospective Pilgrims
Pilgrims planning for 2027 should act early. Check passport validity now and renew if the document expires before 16 November 2027. Gather supporting documents, including national identity records and any required medical paperwork, ahead of the registration window. Decide between the government and private schemes in advance, comparing costs and services once the official Hajj policy is published. Overseas Pakistanis should confirm how the registration process applies to them through official channels. Finally, intending pilgrims should rely only on announcements from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and avoid unverified agents, as full package details and pricing have yet to be confirmed.
