Pakistan will begin mandatory registration for Hajj 2027 later this month, the country's Ministry of Religious Affairs (MoRA) has announced, urging all intending pilgrims to secure valid travel documents without delay. The move comes as Saudi Arabia begins early preparations for the 1448 AH pilgrimage season and presses participating nations to align with a tightened operational calendar.

What the Ministry Announced

According to a statement issued by MoRA, preparations for Hajj 2027 will begin immediately in line with instructions from Saudi authorities. The ministry confirmed that registration will be compulsory for anyone wishing to perform the pilgrimage next year. "The Ministry of Religious Affairs has indicated that mandatory registration for Hajj 2027 will begin later this month," the statement said.

A valid Pakistani passport is central to the process. The ministry said passports must remain valid until November 16, 2027, and advised prospective pilgrims to obtain or renew their documents as soon as possible to avoid missing the registration window. Officials stressed that this requirement applies equally to overseas Pakistanis who intend to perform Hajj.

Registered applicants will later be able to choose between the government scheme and the private Hajj scheme. Details on package costs, terms and conditions are expected to be released under the forthcoming national Hajj policy.

Why Early Booking Matters

Pakistan's religious affairs minister, Sardar Muhammad Yousaf, said earlier that bookings for the 2027 pilgrimage could be completed within roughly two months once the process opens. He linked the accelerated timeline to Saudi Arabia's own preparations, noting that the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah had already announced its policy and timelines for the coming season. "Those who wish to perform Hajj 2027 should get their passports made now," he told reporters.

The urgency reflects a broader shift in how Saudi Arabia manages the pilgrimage. Service contracts for accommodation, transport and other arrangements are increasingly tied to firm deadlines, leaving little room for late applicants. Pilgrims who register early give national authorities the time needed to secure tents in Mina, housing in Makkah and Madinah, and transport before Saudi cut-off dates.

One of the World's Largest Quotas

Pakistan holds one of the largest Hajj quotas in the world. For the 2026 season the country was allocated 179,210 places, with arrangements completed for nearly 179,000 pilgrims. Of these, about 119,000 travelled under the government scheme and around 60,000 through private operators. Hajj management remains one of the largest annual overseas logistical operations the Pakistani government undertakes.

Officials say the 2026 experience was largely positive. The minister reported that authorities received complaints from less than one percent of pilgrims this year, and said the government would review its arrangements to further improve services in 2027. In recent years Pakistan has introduced measures aimed at strengthening accommodation, transport, catering, complaint resolution and guidance for pilgrims.

The Wider Saudi Timeline

The Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah has set out key dates for the 1448 AH season. According to the announced calendar, the issuance of Hajj visas is scheduled to begin on January 28, 2027, with flight operations starting on April 8, 2027. The Day of Arafat, the peak of the pilgrimage, is expected to fall around May 15, 2027, subject to the sighting of the moon. These milestones underline why national registration is opening so far in advance.

Practical Tips for Intending Pilgrims

Prospective pilgrims should act early. First, check that your passport will remain valid through at least November 16, 2027, and renew it now if needed rather than waiting for the registration rush. Second, watch for the official MoRA announcement of the exact registration start date and the published Hajj policy, which will confirm costs and scheme options. Third, decide in advance whether you intend to travel under the government or private scheme, and prepare the required funds, since payment deadlines under the Saudi system are strict. Overseas Pakistanis should confirm how to register from abroad. Finally, rely only on official ministry channels and accredited operators to avoid fraud, and keep copies of all documents and payment receipts.
