Saudia, Saudi Arabia's national flag carrier, has formally launched its Hajj 2026 flight operations, mobilising a fleet of 160 aircraft and making available over one million seats to transport pilgrims from 145 destinations worldwide. The airline's announcement marks one of the largest single-season airlift operations in the history of the pilgrimage.
Scale of Operations
According to Trade Arabia and regional aviation reports, Saudia's Hajj 2026 plan covers a global network of 145 destinations, with over one million seats allocated for pilgrims travelling to the Kingdom. The airline has dedicated a fleet of 160 aircraft exclusively to Hajj-season operations, coordinating inbound and outbound flights across the full duration of the pilgrimage season.
The inaugural Hajj flight, designated SV5807, arrived at King Abdulaziz International Airport in Jeddah carrying 376 pilgrims from Dhaka, Bangladesh - signalling the official start of the international airlift on 18 April 2026.
Saudi Arabia's Total Transport Plan
Saudia's operations form part of a much broader national transport strategy. As reported by Hajj Reporters, Saudi Arabia's overall air transport plan for Hajj 2026 encompasses 3.1 million seats across approximately 12,000 flights, involving multiple airlines including flynas, flyadeal, and international carriers such as KLM.
Enhanced Pilgrim Services
Saudia has introduced several pilgrim-focused enhancements for the 2026 season:
- Luggage First service - managing approximately 330,000 bags, with luggage transported directly to pilgrims' accommodation upon arrival
- Dual boarding passes - pilgrims receive boarding passes for both arrival and return flights at their point of international departure
- Miqat announcements - onboard reminders broadcast as aircraft approach the Miqat boundary, enabling pilgrims to assume the state of Ihram at the appropriate time
- Talbiyah broadcasts - the recitation of the Talbiyah is played onboard during the approach to Saudi Arabia
- Hajj inflight channel - a dedicated channel providing educational content on Hajj and Umrah rituals
Integration with Ground Transport
In a further development aimed at streamlining pilgrim journeys, Saudia has integrated its digital ticketing systems with Saudi Arabia Railways, enabling the simultaneous issuance of boarding passes for flights and train journeys. This allows pilgrims travelling between Jeddah, Makkah, and Madinah to manage their full itinerary through a single booking interface.
Significance for Pilgrims
The scale of this year's airlift reflects the return to full international Hajj quotas following earlier years of restricted capacity. Pilgrims are advised to confirm their flight details through their registered Hajj operators and to check the Nusuk platform for any operational updates ahead of their departure.
