Singapore has begun formal preparations for the 2027 Hajj season, confirming an allocation of 900 pilgrim places and introducing tougher medical screening for applicants. The Islamic Religious Council of Singapore, known as MUIS, set out the arrangements in a media release on September 4, 2026, ahead of a timetable that runs through early November.

The announcement reflects a broader trend across many countries this year, as authorities tighten health requirements for the pilgrimage in line with new rules from the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Medical clearance has become a central condition for issuing Hajj visas for the 1448 AH season.

Quota and Registration Process

According to MUIS, Singapore has been allocated 900 places for Haj 2027. The places are administered through the council's MyHajSG portal on a first-come, first-served basis. Prospective pilgrims who register interest receive a Letter of Intent, which begins the formal application process.

The council published a clear sequence of deadlines. Letters of Intent were due to be issued on September 14, 2026, with applicants required to complete their medical assessment by October 13. The deadline to accept a Letter of Intent falls on October 18, and Letters of Offer begin to be issued from October 20. Pilgrims must then purchase their Haj package by November 2.

MUIS stressed that prospective pilgrims should engage only MUIS-appointed travel agents for their Haj packages and related services, warning that dealing with unauthorised operators exposes applicants to financial risk.

Enhanced Medical Requirements

The most significant change for Haj 2027 is the strengthened medical assessment. MUIS said all prospective pilgrims must undergo a set of mandatory evaluations before a Haj visa can be issued. These include a clinical examination, blood tests, a chest X-ray, an electrocardiogram, and a mobility assessment.

The council was direct about the stakes. As stated in its advisory, "these requirements are mandatory and must be met for the issuance of a Haj visa." Applicants bear the cost of the medical assessment themselves.

Applicants with more complex medical conditions are referred to a specialised Haj Medical Panel made up of experienced medical professionals, who carry out further evaluation. The measures are designed to ensure that pilgrims are physically able to withstand the demands of the journey, which involves long periods of walking and extended time outdoors.

Priority for Older Applicants

Consistent with the approach taken for Haj 2026, applicants aged 70 and above who are certified medically fit receive priority consideration. The policy is intended to give elderly Muslims, many of whom have waited years for a place, a fair chance to perform the obligation while they are still able.
