Every registered pilgrim performing Hajj 2026 must carry a Nusuk card - a smart identification document issued by Saudi Arabia's Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Without it, you cannot access the holy sites, board group transport, or receive pilgrim services. Here is everything you need to know.
What the Nusuk Card Is
The Nusuk card is an official smart ID that combines your personal information, medical records, accommodation details, and service provider assignment into a single document. It serves as your passport to all Hajj services from the moment you arrive in Saudi Arabia until you depart.
The card is available in both physical and digital formats. The physical card is issued to all registered pilgrims, while the digital version can be accessed through the official Nusuk app (available worldwide on iOS and Android) or the Tawakkalna app (for Saudi residents).
What You Need It For
The Nusuk card is required for:
- Entry to holy sites: Mina, Arafat, Muzdalifah, and the Jamarat cannot be accessed without it
- Group transportation: Boarding buses between sites requires card verification
- Medical services: Your card stores your health records for emergency treatment
- Accommodation access: Your assigned tent in Mina and hotel details are linked to the card
- Service provider identification: Connects you to your Hajj group for coordination
How to Get Your Digital Card
For international pilgrims, download the Nusuk app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store - search for "Nusuk" by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah. Create an account, and once your Hajj registration is confirmed, your digital Nusuk card will appear in the app.
Important: Only download from official app stores. Fake Nusuk apps have been reported that harvest personal data. The legitimate app is published by the Ministry of Hajj and Umrah.
For pilgrims already in Saudi Arabia, the Nusuk card can also be accessed through the Tawakkalna app under the cards section.
If You Lose Your Card
Losing your physical Nusuk card is not a disaster if you have the digital version on your phone. If you lose both or your phone dies, you can:
- Visit any Nusuk Care Centre at the holy sites
- Contact your Hajj service provider directly
- Call the Unified Call Centre on 1966 (available 24/7 during Hajj season)
Practical Tips
- Keep your physical card in a secure lanyard or pouch around your neck - not in your bag
- Take a photo of both sides of the card and save it to your phone's gallery
- Ensure your phone is charged before leaving your accommodation each day - the digital card is your backup
- Download and set up the Nusuk app before arriving in Saudi Arabia, not at the airport
- If travelling as a family, ensure each family member has their own card accessible
