Egypt has opened the door to its 2027 Hajj season, with the Ministry of Interior set to receive applications for the lottery pilgrimage, known as Hajj al-Qura, from 12 to 27 August 2026. The 16-day window marks the first stage of domestic registration for the 1448 AH season and comes as the government presses ahead with early preparations across every agency involved.
The lottery route is one of the main channels through which ordinary Egyptians secure a place for the pilgrimage, allocating a share of the country's Hajj quota through a public draw. Prime minister orders early completion of arrangements
The registration announcement follows a meeting of the Higher Hajj Committee chaired by Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly on Monday, 3 August 2026, to discuss regulations for the 1448 AH season. Madbouly directed officials to complete all administrative and technical preparations early, including arrangements for travel, accommodation and medical services.
According to Egypt Independent, the meeting was attended by the ministers of transport, social solidarity and civil aviation, along with senior Cabinet and Interior Ministry officials, while the ministers of health, tourism, foreign affairs, Awqaf and labour joined by video conference. Madbouly said the aim was to ensure effective coordination among all relevant authorities and to deliver high-quality services to Egyptian pilgrims, while maintaining close cooperation with Saudi authorities to keep procedures running smoothly.
During the session, officials reviewed an assessment of the previous 1447 AH season, including how Egypt's pilgrimage visa quota had been distributed among the bodies responsible. Officials noted that Egypt's Hajj Affairs Office received the Labaytum Silver Award for the first time, and that a unified database of all Egyptian pilgrims had been created through the Hajj Portal. Coordination between Egyptian and Saudi authorities, they said, ensured that no Egyptian pilgrim remained outside the official Hajj system.
How the lottery application works
For the 2027 season, the Interior Ministry has set out several ways to apply during the registration window. Prospective pilgrims can submit requests through police stations and security directorate branches across the country, through the electronic portal of the Administrative Affairs Administration on the Ministry of Interior website, or through the designated centre for receiving Hajj applications.
The lottery is aimed at Egyptian citizens seeking to perform Hajj through the official government channel, and it sits alongside other missions, including those run by the Ministry of Social Solidarity and the tourism Hajj programme operated through licensed companies.
