The Hajj Committee of India has ordered every candidate provisionally selected for the 2027 pilgrimage to complete a preliminary medical examination and upload the results by September 15, 2026. Applicants who miss the deadline risk having their registration cancelled, according to the committee.
The instruction was issued in Circular No. 10 for Hajj 2027, released by the committee on Tuesday. It sets out a two-stage medical screening and fitness certification process under Section 21 of the Hajj Policy 2027.
What the circular requires
According to the circular, all pilgrims provisionally selected for Stage 1 must undergo a preliminary medical examination conducted by a government allopathic medical officer at a government health centre. Private clinic reports are not accepted for this step.
Candidates must then submit the completed primary medical screening and fitness certificate, known as Annexure-1, along with the payment receipt. This can be uploaded to the official Hajj Committee of India portal or submitted as a hard copy to the applicant's respective State or Union Territory Hajj Committee.
The committee has been clear about the consequence of inaction. Pilgrims must complete this submission on or before September 15, 2026, failing which their registration for the pilgrimage may be cancelled. Original documents and diagnostic reports must be preserved for a second stage of screening, which will take place around the time of travel.
Grounds for cancellation and disqualification
The circular warns that any candidate found medically unfit will have their registration cancelled. It also states that concealing a medical condition or providing false information will result in immediate disqualification, and the disqualified candidate will forfeit their deposit.
The Hajj Committee, which operates under the Union Ministry of Minority Affairs, has issued a form that selected candidates must complete. The form asks for information on serious illnesses, including allergies, blood pressure, diabetes, heart problems, cancer, and mental illness. Candidates who conceal such information may also face legal action under existing policies, according to the circular.
Part of a wider health focus
India's move sits alongside a broader tightening of health rules for the coming season. Saudi Arabia has made a medical fitness assessment mandatory for all pilgrims wishing to perform Hajj in 2027, with the health clearance processed through the Nusuk platform before a visa is issued. Vaccination requirements, including the quadrivalent meningococcal ACWY vaccine, remain a separate condition of travel.
Hajj 2027 is expected to take place in mid-May 2027, corresponding to the 8th to 13th of Dhul-Hijjah 1448 AH. India is one of the largest sources of pilgrims each year, which makes early medical screening a significant logistical exercise for state committees.

Selected candidates in India should act well before the September 15 cut-off rather than at the last moment. Book the preliminary examination at a recognised government health centre, not a private clinic, and confirm that the examining officer is a government allopathic medical officer as required.
Complete Annexure-1 accurately and disclose any existing condition honestly, since concealment carries the risk of disqualification and loss of deposit. Keep both the payment receipt and the completed certificate ready for upload to the Hajj Committee of India portal, and retain original diagnostic reports safely for the second-stage screening near the time of travel.
