Malaysia's pilgrimage fund, Lembaga Tabung Haji, will begin issuing Hajj offer letters to 31,600 prospective pilgrims for the 1448 AH / 2027 season in stages from September 21. The fund also confirmed it is holding the cost of the pilgrimage steady for a fourth consecutive year despite mounting financial pressures.
The announcement, reported in early September, sets out the timeline for Malaysian pilgrims hoping to travel next year and reflects the fund's continued policy of subsidising costs for lower-income savers.
Cost held at RM33,300
For the 2027 season, Tabung Haji is maintaining the full Hajj cost at RM33,300 per person for Muassasah pilgrims. According to the fund, holding the figure was achieved through efficient governance and strategic negotiations with service providers in the Holy Land, even as it faced inflation, global economic uncertainty, and rising costs of services.
The actual amount paid varies by income tier. Pilgrims in the B40 lower-income group receive government assistance, with their payment set at RM15,000, around 45 percent of the true cost. Those in the M40 middle-income group are required to pay RM23,500, while pilgrims in the T20 higher-income group pay the full RM33,300.
This tiered structure is designed to keep the pilgrimage financially accessible for lower-income Malaysians while asking those with greater means to cover a larger share of the real cost.
Offer letters and eligibility
The 31,600 offer letters will be issued in stages beginning September 21. To qualify, prospective pilgrims must hold a minimum balance of RM15,000 in their Tabung Haji accounts and must pass a medical examination.
The medical requirement mirrors the wider tightening of health rules across the pilgrimage. Saudi authorities have made a medical fitness assessment a condition for the issuance of a Hajj visa, and pilgrims found unfit may be unable to travel.
Prospective pilgrims who receive an offer letter should respond within the stated period, as places not confirmed may be reallocated to others on the waiting list.
Basic courses to begin September 25
Alongside the offer letters, Tabung Haji will begin organising Hajj Basic Courses at more than 200 mosques nationwide from September 25. The courses are intended to prepare pilgrims in terms of religious knowledge and the practical performance of the rites before they depart.
Attending these courses is an important step in preparation, since a well-informed pilgrim is better able to perform Tawaf, Sa'i, the standing at Arafah, and the other rites correctly and with understanding.
What Malaysian pilgrims should do now
Prospective pilgrims should first confirm that their Tabung Haji account meets the RM15,000 minimum balance and that their personal details are current. Those expecting an offer should watch for their letter from September 21 and respond promptly once it arrives.
Pilgrims should schedule and complete their medical examination early, as a pass is required before travel can be confirmed. Registering for a Hajj Basic Course from September 25 is strongly advised, both to satisfy preparation requirements and to build confidence in performing the rites. Finally, all payments and arrangements should be made only through Tabung Haji to avoid unauthorised operators.
