Pakistan has registered more than 100,000 prospective pilgrims for the 2027 Hajj within the first five days of opening its sign-up window, the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony has confirmed. According to the ministry, 107,587 people completed their registration from home during the opening phase, a figure that points to strong early demand ahead of next year's pilgrimage.
The surge came during the Muharram holidays and was handled entirely through a digital process. Officials say the response confirms that the move toward home-based, paperless registration is working as intended. According to the ministry, the system allowed applicants to complete the process without visiting government offices.
Government Scheme Dominates Early Demand
The early numbers show a clear preference for the state-run option. Of the 107,587 people who registered, about 85,000 selected the government scheme, while 22,587 chose the private scheme operated by licensed tour operators. This split underlines the continued trust placed in the official channel, which typically offers a fixed and regulated package.
Package length also divided applicants almost evenly. According to the ministry, around 56,000 pilgrims opted for the long Hajj package, while 51,000 chose the short package. The long option usually involves a more extended stay in the holy cities, while the short package compresses the journey to reduce costs and time away from work.
The ministry said cost and operational details for the 2027 operation would be announced in a second phase. Prospective pilgrims who have registered are therefore advised to wait for official confirmation of fees before making any payments.
Who Is Registering
The demographic breakdown offers a snapshot of Pakistan's pilgrim base. Roughly 63,000 men and 44,000 women registered during the opening days, with the majority falling in the 25 to 50 age group. This marks a relatively young profile compared with the common assumption that Hajj is undertaken mainly in later life.
Registrations were spread across every region. Punjab led with about 51,000 applicants, followed by Sindh with 33,000 and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa with 15,000. Islamabad accounted for around 5,500, Balochistan for 2,000, Azad Kashmir for 600, and Gilgit-Baltistan recorded a small number of early sign-ups. The provincial spread will help authorities plan quota distribution and logistics once Saudi Arabia finalizes Pakistan's allocation.
A Fully Digital Operation
The 2027 Hajj is being built around a fully digital, end-to-end system developed by Pakistan's National Information Technology Board. The platform is designed to remove paperwork from the process, from initial registration through to selection and payment. Officials have presented the shift as a way to cut fraud, reduce queues, and give applicants a transparent record of their status.
For context, Pakistan sent roughly 179,000 pilgrims for the 2026 Hajj. The strong five-day registration figure suggests demand for 2027 remains high, though final numbers will depend on the confirmed quota and the costs announced in the next phase. Separately, the government has set October 5 as the start date for the second installment payment for those already in the pipeline from earlier stages.
Practical Tips for Prospective Pilgrims
Those planning to perform Hajj in 2027 should keep a few points in mind. First, register only through the official ministry channels or a licensed private operator, and avoid any agent asking for payment before fees are formally announced. Second, keep identity documents and the registration confirmation saved, since the paperless system relies on digital records.
Third, applicants should begin arranging the mandatory medical clearance early, as health screening is now a standard requirement before visas are issued. Finally, pilgrims should decide between the long and short packages based on budget and available leave, and watch for the second-phase announcement that will confirm the full cost. Checking the ministry's official platform regularly remains the safest way to track application status.
